04/22/2023

Gideon Freudmann is a composer, performer and cello innovator who coined the term "CelloBop" to describe his music. His solo performances often include improvisation and the use of technology to sample, loop and layer tracks in real time to create music that is complex, nuanced, creative and compelling.
Redmond Region Orchestra Boosters was formed in 2008 to support the school orchestra programs in the Redmond Region of the Lake Washington School District. We focus on the middle school and high school orchestras at Redmond Middle School, Timberline Middle School, and Redmond High School. We work closely with the orchestra directors at those schools to support and build the orchestra programs through fundraising, chaperoning, outreach, special events, and communications.

Based on the popular film in the 80s, Heathers The Musical: High School Edition is a story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the new kid J.D. who has a dark past. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather's butt. but J.D. has another plan for that bullet. Heathers The Musical: High School Edition is a black comedy that deals with a variety of topics that maybe upsetting or triggering. While some of the language has been altered from the original version for teen actors and audiences, the characters, issues, and the plot is exactly the same. Please make sure to visit our website YouthTheatre.org ahead to time to determine if this is suitable for you/your child to see.
The topics that come up are:
- bullying
- suicide attempt
- murder (one is poisoned, two are shot)
- use of guns on stage (we will not use guns that actually fire blanks)
- body image (one character is scripted to be overweight)
- school violence (school is blown up in the end--the student who plants it dies)
- threat of rape
- rumor of false gay relationship spread with malicious intent
YTN has taken appropriate measures to discuss these issues with the actors involved in the production as well as looking out for their mental health in the process so that everyone feels comfortable performing the show. If you have any questions, please contact our Executive Artistic Director (and the director of this production), Mimi Katano at mimi@youththeare.org.
Performance schedule of which cast members will be performing on what night will be available by February 20th.

Join us for a staged reading of the brand new script, The Wall and the Woods!
Play/Write is a new YTN program, in which the students create a show from scratch! Through improv, devising exercises, and brainstorms they created a foundation from which our playwright, Daniel Repp, wrote his script.
In this new fantasy dystopia, 13-year-old Lily is a proud Gatewatcher, defending the great city of Nestuk against enemies from the surrounding woods. When she is captured by a young group of rebels from beyond Nestuk's walls, Lily learns a dark secret about her city and what they've been fighting to keep away - a secret that will lead her to magic beasts, cryptic riddles, and unlikely allies. Come see the debut reading of this original play inspired by the cast's answer to the question: what sort of show do you wish you could put onstage?
Audience members will need to remain masked while indoors at YTN.

THOREAU AT HOME (Streaming)
18th & Union - 1406 18th Ave, SeattleLIVESTREAMING AND ON-DEMAND

Henry David Thoreau is best known for Walden, his record of two years spent striving to create a model of simplified existence in the woods, and for Civil Disobedience, which proved to be an inspiration for Gandhi and other people seeking social change.
Working from Thoreau's journals, acclaimed Northwest writer David Wagoner crafts a vivid portrait of encounters with birds, animals, plants, and weather among the remarkably varied landscapes around Concord, Massachusetts. Thoreau believed that cities were saved, not by the good men in them, but by the forests and swamps around them. He knew from the start the dangers in an exclusively commercial America and tried to show in all his words and actions, in the whole flavor of his life, a richer alternative.
This play - so timely as we wrestle with the effect the human race has had on the natural world - connects us to Thoreau shortly before his early death yet still active in mind and heart, planning the fullest life he could imagine, and finding wonderment in the smallest details of the landscape he called home.
